Frequently asked questions

Is Mòpyon.net free?

Yes. Playing online, against the computer, puzzles, tournaments, clubs and the forums are free for everyone. Mòpyon VIP is an optional membership that removes ads and adds extras such as board styles and more coach reviews.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play as a guest right away. An account keeps your rating, your games and your friends, and lets you play rated games and join tournaments.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. The site is made for phones first and works in any modern browser. You can also add it to your home screen so it opens like an app, and turn on notifications for challenges.

How does my rating change?

Only rated online games change your rating. You gain points for a win and lose points for a loss; the amount depends on your opponent’s rating. Each speed (blitz, rapid, untimed) has its own rating. See our guide on clocks and ratings.

How strong are the computer opponents?

There are seven, from Carlo, who makes beginner mistakes, to Brizz, the strongest. They run in your own browser and never change your rating.

What are department teams?

You can choose the Haitian department you come from or feel connected to, in Haiti or in the diaspora. Your rated wins score points for that team in a weekly league.

How do I pay for VIP?

With MonCash in gourdes, or by card in US dollars. VIP is a single payment for one month or one year with no automatic renewal: when it ends, you simply return to the free version. You can also give VIP as a gift to another player.

Is cheating allowed?

No. Using a program or another person to choose your moves in rated games is cheating. Online games are decided on our server, results cannot be faked, and games are checked for computer help. Read our terms of use.

What happens to my data?

We collect as little as possible and never sell it. Our privacy policy lists exactly what we keep and why, and you can delete your account at any time.

How do I report a player?

Open their profile or the menu in the game and choose “Report or block”. Reports are read by a person.
